How to Enhance and Grow the Fastest Growing Sport in America
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in America. It continues to sweep the nation everyday. Universities, community colleges, high schools, middle schools and maybe even elementary schools are adding lacrosse programs into their schools to have students exposed to the sport and possibly learn about the background and culture it brings with it. Although, the sport is getting implemented into schools not many people understand the game itself. That is why I want to start my own lacrosse camp to give young girls the chance to learn about a new sport and fall in love with it like I did.
When I was a child I had no idea what lacrosse was until my father introduced me to it. At first I absolutely hated the sport but eventually I adored the sport. Just like my father did, I want to introduce lacrosse to girls at a young age because it gets the girls active, introduces them to new people and they get to play one of the greatest sports ever played on two feet!
I decided to start my own lacrosse camp because it is my passion. I can not imagine my life without it. I play division one lacrosse in college and I would not do it if I did not love it. Through my journey to get to where I am today, I have had the chance to meet new people that share the same passion as I do. I have also been blessed to have the chance to help out at other lacrosse clinics with young girls. Working at those are camps it has shown me that I want to teach and coach the next generation of girl lacrosse players. I have seen girls eyes light up when they catch their first ball or when they score or when the pick up a ground ball the first time. It is truly inspiring.
It is also very important to me to give young girls a chance to play sports. Girls sports are not highlighted and idolized as much as really any boy sport. Just being able to give a girl a shot to play a sport that they love and teach them new skills to get to the next level whether it is club lacrosse team, your school team or maybe one day your college team is amazing. Just showing the girls that someone other than their family cares and wants to support them, will make them feel motivated to learn more and get better.
I chose to make this my business because it combines a lot of things that I’m interested in and passionated about. I have already said how I am very passionate about lacrosse but I am also interested in maybe being a coach or a teacher one day and this lacrosse camp gives me the opportunity to do both. Teaching or coaching something that you love and are very interested in makes it ten times easier to teach it and makes it twenty times more fun for the girls.
Overall, starting my own lacrosse camp for girls would be a dream come true. I would be able to make some sort of an impact on a young lacrosse player. Giving the chance for a young girl to find something she is passionate about and grow over time is the end goal. I challenge you to go out and find something you are interested in and see how you can make an impact on someone’s life for the better!
